The Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Research at Euneiz University encourages excellent, innovative and applied research focused on providing concrete solutions to the social, economic and technological challenges of the 21st century. From its headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz, it aims to promote effective integration between research, training and transfer in the strategic areas of Health, Sport and New Interactive Technologies, thereby enhancing its local and international impact.
In line with the strategic transitions set out in the 2025-2030 Research Plan —digital-technological, energy-ecological and social-health— the Vice-Chancellor’s Office addresses critical challenges such as an ageing population, environmental sustainability and the fight against sedentary lifestyles, developing applied research that culminates in practical, interdisciplinary and innovative solutions. Its mission is to contribute to sustainable development, social welfare and technological competitiveness in the Basque Country with an open, collaborative and global approach.
The mission of research at Euneiz is to train outstanding professionals in Health, Sport and New Interactive Technologies, promoting applied research that generates high-impact knowledge and contributes to the sustainable development of society. From Vitoria-Gasteiz, Euneiz develops innovative solutions to social and technological challenges, working with regional and international strategic partners to make the Basque Country a leader in social welfare, sports performance, and technological transformation.
In its vision, the Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Research at Euneiz aims to be recognised in 2030 as a leading university in applied research and knowledge transfer in Health, Sport and New Interactive Technologies. Euneiz will be a strategic hub for the Basque University System (SUV), promoting the internationalisation of Basque talent and consolidating Vitoria-Gasteiz as a leading city in educational and scientific innovation. With strategic projects, it will actively contribute to economic and social development, creating practical solutions that improve quality of life and promote social cohesion.
The Euneiz Strategic Research Plan 2025-2030 establishes a clear and ambitious roadmap to consolidate Euneiz University as a leading institution in applied research in three key areas: Health, Sport and New Interactive Technologies.
This plan, aligned with the regional strategies of the Basque University System, RIS3 Euskadi and the 2030 Science, Technology and Innovation Plan, responds directly to global challenges such as active ageing, digital transformation, sustainability and sedentary lifestyles, developing practical and innovative solutions.
Euneiz is committed to research that combines scientific excellence, social impact, technology transfer and internationalisation, working closely with companies, healthcare, sports and technology organisations in the Basque Country and prestigious international networks.
The European University Gasteiz Foundation (Euneiz Foundation), founded in November 2022 and located in Vitoria-Gasteiz, is a non-profit organisation that promotes academic, cultural, scientific and technological development in close cooperation with Euneiz University.
Under the agreement signed with Euneiz University, the Foundation is actively committed to financing and supporting joint activities in key areas such as academic training, research, culture and university outreach. These activities include promoting educational programmes, developing research and innovation projects, organising academic and cultural events, and awarding scholarships and grants to students with academic and scientific excellence.
Both organisations maintain a collaborative mechanism through a Monitoring Committee, ensuring transparency, efficiency and strategic alignment of the activities carried out.
Euneiz University currently has a team of 18 active researchers, made up of teaching and research staff (PDI) and collaborators in various critical research areas, such as new interactive technologies, sport and health. With a solid academic background, they have led strategic lines of research in areas such as exercise physiology, chronic disease and biomarkers in functional health, relating to the field of health and sport. Innovative research lines such as gamification, video games, technology applied to cultural identity and human-computer interaction have also focused much of this activity in the field of new technologies, characterised by its interdisciplinary approach and the combination of computer science, digital narratives and advanced technological applications.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Research at Euneiz, led by Vice-Chancellor Aitor Coca, is responsible for promoting scientific output and the development of research projects, as well as facilitating collaboration between researchers and different departments. With the aim of promoting quality research and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in various areas, it plays an important role in creating collaborative networks with other universities and research centres.
