The University Master’s Degree in Pelvic Floor and Abdomino-Pelvic-Perineal Complex Physiotherapy aims to specialise physiotherapists in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the different pathologies related to the pelvic floor and the abdomino-pelvic-perineal complex.
The student will learn to design specific treatments depending on the pathology, symptomatology and the patient, as well as practising specific techniques such as biofeedback, electrostimulation, diathermy, manual therapy, myofascial techniques, therapeutic exercise and neuromodulation.
Urogynaecological and coloproctological dysfunctions are functional disorders of the abdomino-pelvic regions whose study, as well as their adequate prevention and treatment is the responsibility of Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy. This field of action is a physiotherapy specialisation and is considered to be one of the first choice conservative treatments due to a number of factors, such as the type of techniques used, the effectiveness of their results, their suitability for combination with other medical treatments, and their low risk of side effects. There are also other preventive objectives, such as contributing to the improvement of physical condition with training programmes and developing habits to avoid unwanted injuries.
This University Master’s Degree, which is taught on a blended basis, consists of 60 credits, organised into five modules with 8 compulsory subjects (48 ECTS), plus compulsory external placements (6 ECTS), and a Master’s Thesis (6 ECTS).

A unique course in the north of the country and with the latest scientific evidence
This Master’s Degree, unique in the northern area, offers high quality training with a deep insight into clinical pathophysiology and current treatments, incorporating an updated review with scientific and clinical evidence in the approach to pelvic floor dysfunctions present in both men and women, and in paediatrics.
An effective, non-invasive treatment
Pelvic physiotherapy is considered an effective first-choice treatment, both because of its non-invasive nature and because it offers optimal results in terms of symptom relief. It can also be easily combined with other medical treatments without side effects.
High health and social demand
Health professionals such as obstetricians, urologists and midwives are increasingly prescribing physiotherapy treatment for pelvic floor pathologies. Its efficacy in this type of dysfunction and the demand from other health professionals and society itself has led to the opening of pelvic floor physiotherapy units in hospitals, clinics and primary care centres. This demonstrates the need for professionals specialised in this scientific discipline.

Also, with the same objective, a period of external academic placements is included where students will learn at the hands of specialised clinics with extensive experience in the field of pelvic floor physiotherapy.
The Curriculum will end with the presentation and defence of the Master’s Thesis, where students will demonstrate that they have acquired the competences, knowledge and skills required for an official master’s degree that gives access to the doctoral programme.
