Companies and research contracts

As part of Euneiz’s efforts to promote partnerships with companies to share resources and knowledge that will have a positive impact on society, alliances have been established with organizations such as the Baskonia-Alavés Group, BioAraba, the Álava Cancer Association, KSIgune, and ICC.

  • Baskonia-Alavés Group: Strategic partnership in applied sports research, focusing on innovative projects in advanced physiotherapy and specific physical training for football and basketball, with the aim of optimising performance and reducing the risk of injury in developing athletes.
  • Association Against Cancer in Álava: Active participation in research projects focused on health and physical exercise for cancer patients, promoting innovative solutions to improve quality of life.
  • BioAraba: Participation as a collaborating entity in various health research programmes and projects, such as those funded under the Basque Government's call for proposals in ‘Promotion of Health Research Activity 2024’, including initiatives aimed at health education and prevention through the use of mobile technologies.
  • Vital Foundation: Strategic alliance on multiple social and research projects, with a focus on promoting healthy habits and integrating physical exercise into public health programmes.
  • KSIgune: Participation in tenders and research projects under the KSIgune Conexiones 2024-2025 programme, promoting innovative initiatives that encourage knowledge transfer in strategic areas related to health, sport and creative technologies, fostering synergy between universities and the productive sector.
  • Alava Football Federation: Collaboration on initiatives to optimise athletic performance and promote sports science training among young athletes.
  • ICC: Collaboration in research and innovation applied to the cultural and creative field, generating projects that integrate new technologies and scientific methodologies to enhance social impact, promote culture, and improve the efficient management of cultural and creative resources.

Innovation and knowledge transfer

EUNEIZ has established a knowledge transfer model designed to generate social impact and improve the quality of life of communities through collaborative projects and specialised consulting services. Among the most noteworthy are:

  • Partnership with the Association Against Cancer in Álava: Projects have been conducted linking physical exercise with improved well-being in cancer patients, developing personalised physical activity programmes to reduce the side effects of treatment and improve quality of life.
  • Vital Foundation: Euneiz has led projects funded by the Vital Foundation, focused on promoting healthy habits through physical exercise programmes, as well as implementing social interventions for vulnerable groups.
  • Alava Football Federation: In this partnership, Euneiz has worked on implementing training and development programmes in sports science, focusing on values in sport and athletes' health, as well as promoting young talent in the field of sport.

Networks and consortia

  • Red Española de Investigación en Retorno Social de la Inversión en Deporte (REIRSID) (Spanish Network for Research on the Social Return on Investment in Sport): Funded by the Higher Sports Council (Ministry of Culture and Sport), with a total investment of €10,000.00 for the 2023/2024 academic year, led by Alfonso Jiménez Gutiérrez and in collaboration with Luis Llurda-Almuzara.
  • Red Española de Investigación en Ejercicio Físico y Calidad de Vida en la Población Oncológica (REFICON) (Spanish Network for Research on Physical Exercise and Quality of Life in Cancer Patients): Funded by the Higher Sports Council (Ministry of Culture and Sport) with €8,000.00 for the 2023/2024 academic year, led by Lucía Sagarra Romero, with the participation of Aitor Coca and Borja Gutiérrez.

Both networks are notable for their expertise in applied research in health and sport.

Facilities and resources

The Physiology Laboratory is equipped with a variety of cutting-edge resources, allowing researchers to study the mechanics of the human body and its physiological responses, as well as analyse data in real time and develop new methodologies that contribute to advancing knowledge in health and physical performance. Among the equipment available, the following are particularly noteworthy:

  • Cardiopulmonary assessment system with gas analyser and lactate analyser: accurately assesses cardiovascular and aerobic capacity and gas exchange during exercise, determining key ventilatory thresholds for personalised training.
  • Advanced electromyography: allows analysis of electrical muscle activity to optimise training and prevent injuries.
  • HRV technology combined with OURA: monitors heart rate variability and recovery, facilitating decisions based on the athlete's physiological state.
  • INBODY 770: provides detailed and accurate body composition analysis for better health management and athletic performance.
  • KINVENT dynamometry: allows the evaluation of grip strength, push strength, traction and other fundamental parameters for functional assessment.
  • Force platforms: provide accurate analysis of muscle strength and functionality, essential for developing specific training and rehabilitation programmes.
